Chicago, ILLINOIS— With Prom season only months away, high school
hallways are filled with excited chatter about dates, curfews, party plans,
and – for girls – that all-important question of “what dress are you wearing?”
For some girls, the answer isn’t an easy one to give. The current economy,
tight budgets, and lost jobs are making it nearly impossible for many girls
to attend one of the most treasured milestones of their life. Luckily,
Chicago has fairy godmothers in the Princess Closet, a nonprofit organization
that provides free prom dresses to any high school girl - making their prom
dream a reality.
The Princess Closet Organization will host its 3rd annual Dream Day events.
We are a 100% volunteer based organization and rely on donations of dresses,
shoes, jewelry, make-up and purses as well as monetary donations.
The Princess Closet promotes self-confidence, individual beauty and diversity
by providing new and virtually new prom dresses and accessories FREE to
high school girls in Illinois. The Princess Closet was established in 2010 and
has not only transformed hundreds of young ladies into the belles of the ball,
but promoted higher education and promotes academic excellence through
our Scholarship Fund. On August 28, 2011, we awarded our first two Scholarships
to young ladies who graduated with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, were involved in
community service, and showed superior leadership skills. All activities
conducted by the organization, including donation drives, fundraising
events and the giveaway events are 100% dedicated to the charitable purpose
of making prom (and education beyond) a reality for every high school
girl in Illinois. Students do not need to prove any type of financial hardship
in order to get prom attire from us.
We have many beautiful brand new dresses, shoes and accessories.
