About Princess Closet

The Princess Closet promotes self-confidence, individual beauty and diversity by providing new and virtually new prom dresses and

accessories free to high school girls in Illinois. The organization carries out its mission utilizing the support of volunteers, individual donors and corporate partners in the community. Volunteers collect donations of dresses, shoes, jewelry and accessories throughout the year via donation drives and organize them for our giveaway events located in Illinois in the early spring. In addition, the Princess Closet is an advocate of higher education and in 2010 created the Princess Closet Scholarship Fund.  The organization is funded through fundraising events, individual and corporate donations, and in-kind contributions. All activities conducted by the organization, including donation drives, fundraising events and the giveaway event, are 100% dedicated to the charitable purpose of making prom a reality for very high school girl in Illinois.

The Princess Closet understands that families experience many expenses during their daughters last year of high school and the current state of economic affairs has put even more strain on our bank accounts.  Families shouldn't have to tell their daughters, "sorry, we can't afford this."  It should be a night for all girls to feel like a princess.  To experience the magic of the Princess Closet, all we ask our girls is to bring a student ID-then, they can be transformed into the princesses that we already know they are!

Wishes have been awe-inspiring and life-changing for people involved in anyway, allowing family members, volunteers and entire communities to share the magic of a prom wish.  Making prom a reality is a magical event and we invite you to join us and experience the magic.

***Periodically, the Princess Closet will sell donated merchandise that cannot be used in its clothing project. Proceeds from sales revenue will subsidize our operation and the scholarship fund.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The Princess Closet is to make prom a reality for every high school girl by collecting formal dresses and accessories and providing them free to those girls needing a fairy godmother for prom attire. The Princess Closet promotes self-confidence, individual beauty and diversity among teenage girls in Illinois and provides a fun, respectful atmosphere for our volunteers and the students we serve.

While the girls focus on choosing their magical dress, we focus on them.  Our mission for each girl attending our Dream Dayevents is to learn prom safety and to be presented with many helpful opportunities for a college education.  We want our Dream Dayevents to be both a positive and informative experience.  We provide information on FASA, local college options, as well as official applications for the Princess Closet Scholarships.  We will introduce a Make-up Artistry/Fashion Consultant certificate program for those girls interested in this area as well.  Future plans include a fashion show/college fair and much, much more!
